Morning Breath
Bryan's image of a Red-winged Blackbird was awarded First Place in the 2008 National Wildlife Federation Photo Competition and published in National Wildlife Magazine.
It was also selected out of thousands of entries, earning him a spot on Apple's Aperture Nature Photography Workshop held in Yellowstone National Park and honoring him as a finalist for Emerging Photographer of the Year.
While teaching a group of students at a wetland, Bryan pre-visualized the image three years before the conditions necessary all came together to create it.  This male blackbird was singing on territory in below-freezing temperatures with the rising sun backlighting the scene.  This species sings a three note song, and since the image was made near the end of the bird's song, all three bursts of song are visible.  It is believed to be the only photograph in the world that shows the entire song of a bird.
Bryan has titled this image "Morning Breath" and it is available as a limited edition fine art canvas print.
